Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 1 pound ground beef a fantastic source of protein that adds richness.
  • 1 yellow onion, diced yellow onion for a fragrant and slightly sweet undertone.
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped this softens beautifully as it cooks, adding a wonderful texture.
  • 14 ounce can petite diced tomatoes they add a burst of flavor and keep the dish juicy.
  • 6 ounce can tomato paste for thickness and a concentrated tomato flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce it brings depth and a hint of umami.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme lending an earthy note that complements the beef well.
  • 2 teaspoons dried parsley for a touch of freshness.
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes to add a subtle kick of heat.
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt essential for seasoning and bringing flavors together.
  • 1/2 cup water helps create a saucy base.

Method

Preparation
  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat after cooking.
  2. Toss in the diced onion along with the dried thyme, red pepper flakes, parsley, and kosher salt. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Transfer the cooked beef mixture into a slow cooker. Sprinkle the chopped cabbage on top.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the petite diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and water. Stir well to create a flavorful sauce.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and cabbage. Mix gently to combine all ingredients, and ensure the sauce is evenly distributed.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and set it to low for 6-8 hours.
  5. Once cooked, gently stir the dish to mix everything one last time. Serve warm.

Notes

To intensify flavors, consider adding a splash of vinegar or a spoonful of sugar. You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option. Cooking on high for 3-4 hours will yield similar results if you're short on time.
