Preparation
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess fat after cooking.
- Toss in the diced onion along with the dried thyme, red pepper flakes, parsley, and kosher salt. Sauté until the onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Cooking
- Transfer the cooked beef mixture into a slow cooker. Sprinkle the chopped cabbage on top.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the petite diced tomatoes, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and water. Stir well to create a flavorful sauce.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and cabbage. Mix gently to combine all ingredients, and ensure the sauce is evenly distributed.
- Cover the slow cooker and set it to low for 6-8 hours.
- Once cooked, gently stir the dish to mix everything one last time. Serve warm.
Notes
To intensify flavors, consider adding a splash of vinegar or a spoonful of sugar. You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option. Cooking on high for 3-4 hours will yield similar results if you're short on time.
